We had planned to visit Chuck's Marina
and restaurant anyway, but the storm that came up forced us in a little
early. Priscilla joked about the 3 beer drinking rednecks in charge, but
in truth she was lucky. Together Kent, Scott, and I have hundreds of hours
of lake experience. A nasty thunderstorm popped
up to the West while we were miles from Chuck's or any other safety. We
watched the storm's progress for a bit while the kids were swimming on
an island beach and determined we'd have to run for cover. As we pulled
down the Blue Creek slew to Chuck's the storm was letting loose right behind
us- literally. We didn't even get wet though, the three of us have run
from storms before. Amber doesn't like lightning much and was a little
nervous, but the roof at Chuck's comforted her. The pizza shack did not
open for another hour, so we had a few and waited. Kent (now you can see
a face) is carrying on
with Zaneta, Priscilla's way in the back at the moment. Chuck's is a favorite
Lake Martin hangout. He, (Greg, don't ask) serves draft beer and wine and
subs and pizza. Dogs are welcome unless it's really busy. He has two himself.
There is always calypso music playing and it's a great place to hang for
a while!
Priscilla said she was afraid of large dogs. She's sure cozying up to
Marley and Jake (Kent and Oskar's dogs). Is that a smile I see? She agreed
early on that Zaneta and I could have a dog- but I could
tell she was nervous. I think that's all settled. The dogs love Chuck's-
they get "pizza bones" (uneaten crusts)!
This is Chuck's from the water pulling up to the docks. The bar is under
the large roof. You can't see the marina convenience store or the pizza
shack in this shot. The pizza is even pretty good!
